I am a benzo that is used adjunctive of skeletal muscle relaxants. When given by IV patients need oxygen, and must be maintained on bedrest for 3 hours. You should not inject me over 1 mL/minute, and I should be injected into a large vein. I may cause CV collapse, life-threatening tachycardia, constipation, incontinence, changes in libido. I also have a BLACK BOX WARNING against mixing me with opioids due to severe CNS and respiratory depression or death.

I am the only skeletal muscle relaxant that acts peripherally on the muscle itself. However I have a BLACK BOX WARNING that LFTs are needed, and the med should be discontinued at the first sign of hepatic impairment
Phenytoin
Diazepam
Lorazepam
Dantrolene
Propofol
I am an IV anesthetic given for hypnosis & sedation. Mishandling of my syringe, vial, or ampoule can result in bacterial contamination and elevate the risk of systemic sepsis. I have interactions with Alcohol, KAVA,, St. John's Wort, and Valerian Root

My first dose, and any increased dosages should be taken at bedtime to prevent dizziness, and possible fainting
Prazosin
Atropine
Propranolol
Sotalol
Lidocaine
I am the drug of choice in symptomatic bradycardia, and patients should be on tele when administering me. Patients should be instructed to avoid high temps, drink water frequently, visit eye doctors regularly, and notify the provider if fluid intake is greater than output, or if they get a fever.
Prazosin
Atropine
Propranolol
Sotalol
Lidocaine
When administering me you should monitor my HR & BP. It is also important to monitor glucose, as I mask signs of hypoglycemia, and I can interfere with glaucoma tests. Patients should report cough, edema, slow pulse, fever, rash, or sore throat. Other side effects are laryngospasms, HF, SA or AV node block, pulmonary edema. Patients should NOT DISCONTINUE ME ABRUPTLY as it can exacerbate cardiac ischemia, and increase the risk of angina and MI. I should be tapered over 2 weeks
Prazosin
Atropine
Propranolol
Sotalol
Lidocaine
Patients are generally hospitalized when starting me, as I can increase dysrhythmias. I am the most effective in reducing recurrent ventricular tachycardia & ventricular fibrillation. CONTRAINDICATIONS of my use is asthma, heart block, prolonged QT syndrome, HF, Cardiogenic shock, and sinus bradycardia.
Prazosin
Atropine
Propranolol
Sotalol
Lidocaine
I am used to treat SERIOUS ventricular dysrhythmias associated with MI, cardiac catheterization, surgery, and digitalis-induced. I have little effect on arterial tissue. I have a short half-life of 10-20 minutes, and RAPID INJECTION of lidocaine within 30 secs produces transient blood levels that are several times greater than therapeutic limits. My therapeutic level is 1.5-5 mcg/mL
Prazosin
Atropine
Propranolol
Sotalol

LFTs, Serum Electrolytes (K+) must be monitored with my use. My side effects are dizziness, muscle cramps, diarrhea, decreased sensitivity to touch, and angioedema. I have a BLACK BOX WARNING that I should not be used in pregnancy due to the risk of fetus injury or death. I have many interactions with food/herbs such as Alfalfa, California poppy, celery, garlic, ginger, hawthorn, marshmallow, mistletoe, quinine, shepherd's purse, St. John's Wort. In a patient receiving Heparin therapy there aPTT should be
1.5-2.5 times the control (45-70 seconds)
1-3 times the control (45-70 seconds)

1-2.5 times the control (50-70 seconds)
Ms. Ferguson, age 58, is admitted to the coronary care unit for treatment of an acute anterior myocardial infarction. That evening, she experiences frequent runs of ventricular tachycardia. The provider tells the nurse to prepare an IV bolus dose of lidocaine. Why is lidocaine administered intravenously at this time—and not orally?
Lidocaine absorption is too erratic when administered orally.
Lidocaine is inactivated by hydrochloric acid.
Most of an absorbed oral dose of lidocaine undergoes first-pass metabolism in the liver.
The onset of action for oral lidocaine is greater than 8 hours.
Mr. Conley, who is 53 years of age, is about to be discharged from the hospital after treatment for recurrent ventricular fibrillation. To prevent breakthrough ventricular ectopy, his prescriber orders amiodarone (Cordarone), 1000 mg PO daily as a loading dose for 2 weeks. What patient teaching implications are important regarding this loading dose?
Most of the drug is destroyed in the gastrointestinal tract, and thus a large dose needs to be given.
Males require large dosages because of their faster metabolic rate.
A history of ventricular dysrhythmia necessitates a higher dose.
The drug has a long serum half-life.
